Pictures from another winter trip to the Hinge Zone in March 2005.
The next day was another sunny day so we got up quickly and got all our gear on for a walk around Second Chasm. Before we got too far Ian gave a quick refresher in the rope skills we would need should someone fall in a crevasse. Matt kindly volunteered to jump into one for us and as I was attached to him at the time I had the honour of trying to rescue him! After arresting his fall with my ice axe and taking some of his weight off I then had to hammer snow stakes into the ice to secure the rope to. After that I can escape from the system and set up a pulley system to winch him to safety. Matt emerged a while later not too worse for wear so the exercise was declared a success!
