A Local Tour
A set of pictures showing some features of the Brunt Ice Shelf (where Halley is located), from the base perimeter to the Hinge Zone 40 kilometres away.
On the shelf between the coast and Halley, crevasses are constantly forming. This one was small enough to step over just 10 months ago but is now over 8 metres across and growing all the time. The peak in the background is part of the Rumples and is one of the few features visible on the horizon at Halley.
