A set of pictures showing some features of the Brunt Ice Shelf (where Halley is located), from the base perimeter to the Hinge Zone 40 kilometres away.
Heading south past Halley and towards the continent itself is the Hinge Zone. This is a fractured region of the shelf where the ice from the continent is flowing off to form the floating ice shelf. As the tides go up and down the ice shelf 'hinges' around this point creating significant features to explore.
