First day

I started work at BAS headquarters in Cambridge yesterday. So far it's going pretty well. I spent most of the first day doing all the normal first day things: taking a look round the building, filling in lots of forms and meeting more people than I have any hope of remembering names for.

Today I went down to stores and got kitted out with all my antarctic gear. It took me a full hour just to try it all on! I've got two big sacks full of stuff. The best bits are the huge fluffy Mukluks and mittens that go right up to your knees and elbows. I also got snow goggles, fleeces, gloves, hats, a balaclava, long-johns, a big parka, headovers, work boots, a hard hat, a big fluffy deerstalker hat, fleece trousers, big insulated jumpsuits, the list was endless!

Other than that I've started to learn about the server set up down South. My boss Rob has been teaching me all about the geeky details so I can fix it if breaks when I'm down there. So far it's been fine and I'm actually enjoying learning a bit more about how these things work.
